Hello there! My name is Mrs. Brousard and I am so excited to be your child's first grade teacher! This is my third year with Sycamore, and I couldn't be more thrilled. Here is a few things about me:
  • I got my Multiple-Subject Teaching Credential from California State University, Fullerton.
  • This is my third year at Sycamore and my second time teaching first grade!
  • I got married in December and my husband and I went on our honeymoon this summer to Greece, Italy, and Turkey!
  • I love to go hiking and bake in my spare time.
  • I am a dog lover and hope to have one of my own one day!

December and January

Hi Parents!
Here are some things that we will be learning for the first half of December and the last half of January:
Literacy: main idea and key details, analyzing characters, cause and effect
Phonics: consonant digraphs ck, blends
Spelling: sh ch, th, wh, and ph words
Grammar: pronouns, verb tenses, -ed suffixes, -s suffixes, -ing suffixes, irregular plural nouns, future tense verbs 
Math: measuring length, width, and height
Science: Sky Watchers (patterns with the moon, Earth, and sun)
Art: Meet the Masters - Escher

Digital Report Cards

Hi Sycamore Families,

In the past, report cards have been given to students to take home. As we move forward, report cards will be digital. First-trimester report cards will be emailed out on the afternoon of Friday, November 18th.


To receive your student(s) report card(s), you will need to log into PowerSchool. Please follow these steps:

1. Go to

2. Log in to your account

3. Click on Email Notification on the left-hand side

4. Click Opt-In

5. Put in the email that you want to receive your student(s) report card(s)

6. Create a password

7. Confirm the password

8. Click Submit


Please see the picture below with step-by-step directions:

1. To ‘Opt-In’ from the Public Portal (Parent Account),  log into the portal and click on ‘Email Notification’ on the left navigation bar/column. 

2. Once directed to the Email Notification page, click on the ‘Document Delivery’ tab and check the box provided in front of the Opt-in field. 

3. Hit Submit after checking the box so that the change is recorded by the system.

Hello Sycamore Families! Here are some topics we will be covering in the month of November so you can prepare your kiddos:
Literacy - main idea and key details
Phonics - st blends, digraphs (sh, ch, th, ph, wh)
Spelling - week 1 is -et, -eg, and -en words, week 2 is -ut, -ug, and -un words, week 3 is -ip, -ig, and -ill families
Grammar - contractions, declarative sentences, comparative adjectives, measurement words (length), singular object pronouns, categorizing words, synonyms
Writing - finishing informative paragraphs, starting opinion writing

Hi Parents! We are almost through the month of September, so I figured now is a good time to catch you up on what we will be doing for the month of October!
- October 7th is Birthday Friday, and Decades Day!
- On October 13th, parents will get the opportunity to come on campus and watch the first graders perform a Water Cycle Song! Time is TBD.
- The History Showcase is October 20th from 5:00-6:30. Stop by our classroom and see what your children have been working on!
- October 28th is our Halloween party and no school on Halloween or the day after!
Here are some things we are working on in class for the month of October:
- Grammar: subject-verb agreement, adverbs, contractions, articles, complete sentences, pronouns, possessive pronouns
- Math: number lines, pairs to make 5/10, doubles, subtraction
- Literacy: problem and solution, consonant blends, adjectives, author's purpose, quotation marks, main idea and key details, vowel digraphs, commas, cause and effect
- Word Sorts/Spelling: word families
- Writing: research, informative writing
- Social Studies: inventors (Benjamin Franklin, Alexander Graham Bell, Thomas Edison)
- Science: Water Cycle
